Speaking in the L1 language is a definite problem for every teacher.
After having become rather hoarse from repetedly trying to get my students (any age) to stop speaking in their mother tongue, I think I have found the perfect recipe. Everytime a student speaks L1, he or she is sent running up and down a set of stairs in the school or run around the building or classroom a few times. This has worked wonders and sometimes the students have enjoyed it so much that they comment how the physical exercise actually relieves them of the classroom boardome and stress. Happy running....
