Talking About Unrest in the World

Home Main Submit Contents Recipes

I am American and cannot pretend like there are not serious events unfolding in the world. I want to bring up the US-Iraq war, but I do not want to create a negative atmosphere in class.

Tomorrow will listen to passive verbs in "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream" sung by Simon and Garfunkel, and then have a discussion.

Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream
by Simon & Garfunkel

Last night I had the strangest dream
I'd ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
to put an end to war.

I dreamed I saw a mighty room
and the room was filled with men
and the papers they were signing said
they'd never fight again.

And when the papers all were signed
and a million copies made
they all joined hands and bowed their heads
and grateful prayers were prayed.

And the people in the streets below
were dancing 'round and 'round
and guns and swords and uniforms
were scattered on the ground.

Last night I had the strangest dream
I'd ever dreamed before.
I dreamed the world had all agreed
to put an end to war.
