What's in a name?
Post cards on the walls of your classroom. The cards have one, two, three and four large circles drawn on them. After demo with your own name - how many syllables does it have?- students stand by the relevant card. Then they have to choose two other words with the same number of syllables. Practise saying the words. Teacher demos the syllables by counting on fingers.(A selection of words could be written on the whiteboard.)
