Here is an activity which you can use for practising simple past tense. You need to have an equal number of students so that you can make two circles of students:
Step 1:
The class is asked to form two circles, one inner circle and one outer circle. So, if there are 20 students in class, then 10 should go in the inner circle and 10 in the outer circle. The inner circle people are asked to face the ones in the outer circle.
(If the classroom consists of fixed desks and there is no room to make two circles, then it is advisable to ask students to stay in their desks and move one desk to the right when the teacher rings the bell. So, this means that there are three rows which are so called the circles)

Step 2:
The teacher distributes a sheet with unfinished sentences to every student. When the teacher rings the bell, every person in the inner circle starts to talk about the 1st unfinished sentences to the person that s/he faces. After the inner circle person finishes, the outer circle person starts to give his opinion as well. When the teacher rings the bell, only the outer circle people move one step to the right, so that they have another partner this time. And they start to talk about the 3rd unfinished sentence with that partner.

Unfinished sentences:
1- My favourite toy .........................................................................................
2- When I was in primary school I ..........................................................
3- One of my best friends in high school...................................................
4- Once I fell in love with ...............................................................................
5- My first boyfriend/girlfriend.......................................................................
6- The subject that I liked a lot ....................................... because..................
7- The subject that I hated was .........................................because.................
8- In the past I never .........................................................................................
9- One of my worst characters was ..................................................................
10- One of my best characters was ....................................................................
11- My friends liked/disliked me because...........................................................

Good Luck.
