In Response To: New teacher needs help (Sam)

Hi - I currently teach this age group. The thing to remember is that a "game" for this age group doesn't have to mean an activity with a set of rules, teams, etc. If you've ever interacted with toddlers (playing with younger siblings etc), think about what they thought of as a "game." Really the big idea is "play". Activities where you can bring the students to the front, one or two at a time, to do an activity that takes about 15 to 30 seconds, are a good "game." For example: a "magic hat" (large floppy hat) with picture cards inside - have the kids come up and pull out a card. If they can correctly identify the picture (vocab you reviewed during that lesson or the prior one), they "win" and you raise their hand and say "WINNER!" If not it's "Sorry, try again tomorrow." So you can have 10 "winners" in a class of 15 kids. Flash card matching on a felt board works too - capital and small letters, letters and pictures ("c" and cat picture).
