For compatibility with other courses, I am unsure what 18 credit hours means. The usual standard for a basic beginner teacher in this field is a certificate which includes around 120 hours of class and assignment work time with some element of practicum. So you'll have to check how many actual hours of work is involved in a credit hour.

Keep in mind the TENL cert is a university program; the coursework is graded and factored into the student's GPA.

As for 18 credit hours, that's around 270-300 total classroom hours for the entire program. For example, given that a semester is usually 15 weeks long, a 3-credit hour course equals 45-48 contact/class hours for the semester. (This excludes time spent studying or completing assignments outside of class.) However, the TESOL practicum itself can entail even more than that because of the way it's structured. The practical component for my MAT required a minimum of 135 hours. Compare that to the CELTA in which the entire cert course is 120 hours.
