In Response To: Communications Degree to teach? (Yana)

You must ask yourself: Do I want to teach abroad for a short term stint, or do I want to teach abroad as a long term career choice? The answer to this question will determine where you should go next academically.

If you are not sure what you want to do and are simply looking for a short term EFL teaching assignment, then a TEFL certificate to complement your degree will suffice as you test the waters, so to speak, in the EFL teaching world. You may like it; you may not.

Once you have some teaching experience abroad and have come to a decision you enjoy second language teaching and are committed to this career choice for the long term, then an MA Linguistics, or in Education will bode well for your future success.
