In Response To: Masters of Education (David Dykstra)

Many people do M.Ed degrees by distance while they teach overseas.

Generally speaking, masters degrees from Australia do not cost as much as masters degrees from the UK or the US (but they aren't really 'inexpensive' unless you are from Australia or New Zealand, either). Doing a degree from a non-English speaking nation is generally not advised (unless you plan on staying in that country for the duration of your career). Australian masters in TESOL focus on sociolinguistics more heavily than TESOL degrees in the US or Canada, or even the UK. A masters degree from an Australian university may not be called a M.Ed even if it's from a faculty of education, however. It may be called an MTESOL (Master of TESOL). That is common in Australia (so a masters degree in communications, which in the US would be called an MA in Communications, would likely be called an MCommunication in Australia).

You can also do M.Ed in areas other than language teaching (educational leadership is very common, as is a general, non-declared M.Ed).
