In Response To: Wasting my time? (Alex McDonald)

Not having any EFL qualifications nor an undergrad degree nor any EFL teaching experience does not bode well for competing in the very competitive EFL teaching world.

Nevertheless, you do have options. You are not too old to teach. Some cultures, like Latin America, Asia, appreciate having "older" teachers in class. But you definitely need to upgrade your academic credentials with a CELTA or another credible, recognizable TEFL certificate.

Nomad mentioned South America as a possible entry point for you. Nicaragua, Costa Rica, are also two areas to consider. Be aware some countries require a university undergrad degree for visa entry in order to legally teach. And, realistically forget about "a good job" as you will be earning third world wages plus starting at the bottom rung of the EFL employment ladder . . . at age 56.
