In Response To: On The Job Certification (Brian)

I'm 39, male, certified in Texas in composite social studies. I have a master's degree in educational leadership, with principal certification... 9 years in the classroom, 5 years as administrator. I have worked with 9-18 year old students. Prefer

I want to teach in Asia, specifically somewhere in Indonesia. I live in the Fort Worth area and looking at options for certification that will make me attractive to employers. I'd like to get in with a good company and possibly do hands on certification in Indonesia or elsewhere.. I'm open to location to get my foot in the door. Oxford Seminars offers an economical 100-hour TESOL/TEFL/TESL course in Dallas... Not sure how marketable that is though.

I'd like some advice on how I might proceed. Would love to be teaching abroad in the summer /fall of 2017. Thanks!

Oxford Seminars is economical because it's substandard. I suggest you look into 120-hour courses offered in Indonesia.

That said... Seriously, why are you wasting your time pursuing a TEFL job in Indonesia that offers low pay and little to no benefits? You're selling yourself short. You're so over-qualified that potential overseas employers may reject you for teaching positions.

Your background and education are perfect for an administrative role in a top k-12 IB or American-curriculum international school in Indonesia and pretty much any other country. That equates to better pay, benefits, and opportunities to teach, if you want. I suggest you look into agencies like Teach Away, Search Associates, Footprints, and Seek Teachers. Otherwise, contact schools directly. Additionally, there's International Schools Review, which includes a teachers' forum.
