MA TESOL: Worth It For Me?

Posted By: Mike McLelland <>

Hello - I am looking for some opinions on whether you feel I can make a MA TESOL work for me economically.

I am 49, looking at completing the master's by 52, renting my house, and traveling with my wife around the world, teaching and exploring. I am currently in communications/marketing/training, so some experience in education but no degrees.

Currently my options are to: 1) get a TEFL certificate abroad and begin to teach, or 2) invest the time and money to get the MA TESOL.

I know that the MA TESOL would be a great benefit to me. My question is economics. Specifically, between 52 and 63 is there enough time through the course of better paying jobs to make the investment in the degree back?

Thanks for all your insights.

Mike
