The whole concept of teaching English as a second language is new to me. I am taking 2 online classes from a small college for it, but can anyone give me some tips for teaching or somethings I should know about before teaching? Like maybe some things that you have learned from experience?

Your question is impossible to answer because you didn't indicate anything about which teaching situation or context. Anyway, assuming you're presently enrolled in the ESL education program at your university, your instructors and advisor should be your first source for advice and information.

To get your feet wet, consider volunteering as a classroom assistant at one of your local, nonprofit ESL literacy/refugee organizations where you can learn by observing and assisting. You might also become a member of MinneTESOL, your state's TESOL affiliate. Lastly, there's the ESL Cafe's job discussion forums, which include general, newbie, and country-specific forums that focus on real-world, ESL/EFL teaching.
