Would a TEFL cert be good for me?

Hi, I'm a college graduate with a BFA and BA in Film studies. I have no teaching or classroom experience. I would love to teach in Asia, and am quite worried about my qualifications being so underwhelming. I was wondering if a TEFL would bolster my chances of being accepted? I've heard stories of people saying the TEFL is not really /that/ important.

I suspect that for some one like me it would be pretty darn important. I'm wondering if anyone could advise me on a reputable TEFL / TESOL course specifically to teach in China. Would I have a good chance of landing a job even though I lack experience in the field?

Thanks for any input.
