In Response To: Sunderland MA TESOL (Muhab Elmusharaf)

Hi Muhab,

I'm actually 2/3 done with the programme right now. I have found it to be very interesting and challenging so far. I will be starting the dissertation phase in about 2 weeks, so I can really only speak of the PgC and PgD phases, both of which I found very relevant to my actual work as an ESL teacher abroad.

I know of one colleague who finished her distance MA TESOL at Sunderland and went on to teach ESL at an American university. The only issue I have heard of is if you place out of the PgC practical teaching module because you already have CELTA (which Sunderland allows). Some international accrediting institutions (like state board teacher certification bodies in America) won't accept this credit because it is not given by an accredited university. So if you are concerned about this and you already have CELTA, go ahead and take the Sunderland module to be on the safe side.

Other than that, Sunderland is a fully accredited university and your degree should be internationally accepted. I would recommend the programme to you, especially if you are an experienced ESL educator.

Best of luck and I hope this helps you make the right decision!

Steve
