In Response To: lesson plans (Andrew)

Hey everyone, I have taught ESL students for about 3 years now but have never received any formal training. Recently one of my new superiors reviewed my teaching and then told me that my lesson plans were not up to par... so I was wondering if anyone can give me some sort of guideline set to follow, or some advice. Also if you know of any inexpensive teaching courses you might mention them.

And, what academic TEFL teaching, or perhaps TEFL pedagogical, qualifications does your supervisor have to tell you your lesson plans were not up to par?

Sometimes academic superiors have to justify their existence and find it necessary to object to anything that does not meet their idea of the world.

If you feel and can tangibly see that your TEFL students are learning and making progress in learning a second language should they not be the ones your supervisor should be evaluating to see whether you're being effective in the classroom?

Perhaps approach your supervisor and ask for his/her academic guidance and direction to make your lesson plans academically effective.

If you receive an abstract answer my initial statement probably is correct; if you receive concrete academic advice, thank your supervisor and move on.
