In Response To: CELTA + MA - extraneous? (Casey)

Reputable universities require potential professors to have a minimum of a Masters degree, if not a PhD. for full time employment.

If you have the resources and the time and want to bide your time before entering university studying for a CELTA, go for it. Another reputable certificate after your name will help your resume.

But as you stated the obvious, a hiring university will consider the CELTA "extraneous".

The CELTA provides the TEFL student with practical classroom learning experiences which you already obtained in Japan for four semesters.

University teaching/learning requires a bit more abstract academic rigor which a reputable Masters degree and certainly a PhD degree provides.
