One option would be a PGCE in the UK, and teach part-time while doing it (so choose a Uni in a city that has language schools). Yes, that would open more doors in the future.

or look at a CELTA or even a DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL - some of the diploma courses will let you on if you have a 'less than standard' cert but a lot of useful experience. Many of the Dips are at least part online/distance (e.g., the one run by EDENZ in Auckland only requires a 2-week attendance on campus and people fly in for that from all over the Asia-Pacific region), and many MA TESOL courses accept a DELTA or Trinity Dip as part credit, so that's useful for an option later down the track.
