In Response To: Advice in regards to teaching in Japan (Ray)

JET is more a classroom assistant role, a talking model, helping the teacher.
But it can be a reasonable initial introduction to Japan and teaching environments.

Other jobs pay more as they actually involve teaching.

May of them can be got with no teacher training at all - see adverts on eslcafe and tefl.com

But online or weekend tefl courses will open a few more jobs for you and give you a little more knowledge and competence in doing the job.

CELTA and equivalent are 'top flight' initial qualifications, useful for opening a few more, better-paying jobs, for raising your competence, and for opening access to jobs in many other western countries.
Not needed for japan, But a useful thing to have...however you may want to wait a year or two to see if you want to keep working in the field for a while, then do the CELTA.
