Dave's ESL Cafe's Teacher Training Forum

New to all of this. Question for the experienced

Hey guys!

Hope everyone is well on here. I am currently looking to get into teaching. I do not have experience at the moment but am looking to gain some via teaching English overseas. I have just came back from Indonesia and was previously working in Johannesburg at AISJ (not in a teaching capacity) and have travelled certain parts of Asia during my studies. I have a few questions about it all, hopefully to be answered by the experienced forum contributors.

1. What constitutes as a good teaching qualification thesedays to get onboard with? Considering that I am looking to begin a new career and dont quite have 1k to fork out on a full CELTA/TEFL course.

2. I have the option of coming back (When I get work) to take the PGDE/PGCE in my native Scotland however are there any alternatives which I could take whilst away? I have heard of a course run via New Jersey in the US which caters to expats who want teacher training? Is this the only option?

Thanks in advance guys!

Mark
