"As to people who have MAs - this is a great qualification (I have one myself) but it is theoretical and celta is unequivocally practical in nature."

I'm not sure why all TESOL-related MAs get labeled as 'theoretical' because that's not always the case. I have an MA in Teaching (MAT) and my coursework included a semester-long practical component---one of the main reasons I chose the degree program. However, here in Saudi Arabia, new teaching colleagues (from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and even the Kingdom) sometimes ask me how my 'CELTA experience' was or more curiously, if I've taken it yet. This is why I always indicate on my CV/resume that my degree entailed a 135-hour ESOL practicum.
