In Response To: teacher trainer courses (james ludwick)

Does anybody have information about teacher trainer courses...(instructors who train prospective ESL teachers such as CELTA-other monthly programs).

I don't know where you're located (possibly Canada?), what your education level is, or what your long-term career aspirations are, but Indiana University in the US has a 4-course, graduate-level EFL/ESL Teacher Trainer Cert program that 'focuses on the preparation of teacher trainers. EPDE's Teacher Trainer Certifcate is unique in that it highlights critical topics such as mentoring, supervision and literacy coaching.' Do an Internet search on: indiana efl teacher trainer certificate.

Then there's the Delta. Plus, I suggest you do an Internet search on 'Become an SIT Trainer.' Being a teacher trainer doesn't always require additional training/certification or even a master's degree; several of my friends---BA-degree holders---are teacher trainers because they have umpteen years of solid EFL/ESL teaching experience and proven knowledge in the field as well as a CELTA or SIT cert. Moreover, they mentored other less-experienced teachers before progressing into teacher training.

For other advice and leads in your area, contact your local TESOL affiliate. (Consider becoming a member if you haven't already done so.) Anyway, my area's TESOL organization was a huge help in connecting me to the best person to supervise my teaching practicum for my master's degree.
