I'm interested in teaching English in Germany, and after doing a decent amount of research still have two questions. First, does it really matter whether I do an intensive (i.e. in-person and not online) TEFL or CELTA certification? Do employers necessarily prefer CELTA over TEFL, or will it make little to no difference which one I choose?
I also was wondering whether I should take the certification in the US or in Germany. I figured that taking it in Germany was a better option, since I would already be in the country once I started applying for jobs, and I'd also be able to get a little exposure to German before applying. However, I wouldn't mind saving the extra money by taking it in the US (and not having to worry about finding accommodation). Any suggestions/reccomendations?

You don't state your nationality; however, I assume you're American. Unless you hold an EU passport, forget about teaching EFL in Germany and other EU countries as well. (Do an Internet search for the following thread: US citizen 2 teach Germany esl cafe.)
There are plenty of other countries you can probably teach in. Short list them and then check out the Cafe's country-specific job discussion forums to see what qualifications are required.
