In Response To: PhD/EdD by distance learning (mcsensei)

Thanks for your comments. Online institutions in the US have a bad reputation. I think ones like Phoenix were primarily motivated by money, and the traditional unis decided to sit back and not take a leading role in setting up such programs. I single out Phoenix as I have heard from people who completed BAs and really regretted having studied there.

This played out differently in the UK and AUS, and it was the traditional unis that established distance learning programs as equal qualifications.

Another issue involved, particularly when looking at PhD programs, is that the UK and AUS paradigm is more independent with a focus on doing the research. In the US, the research is preceded by around 2 years of course work (post MA) and PhD students also typically teach undergrad classes. The distance model complicates this set up.

Again, I'd love to hear from people who have completed or are in the process of doing a distance PhD/EdD.

Thanks again,
mcsensei
