... didn't finish what I was about to write.

You can possibly take a sabbatical from your present position if your employer is willing.

Perhaps some sort of arrangement can be made where you guarantee to return to Japan upon completion of the Masters degree in compensation for the sabbitical time granted. Just a thought!!
