What can be very effective is to model examples rather than explicitly explaining the two forms and structures. Furthermore, modelling them comparatively:
e.g. "Have you BEEN to Spain before?""DID you go to Spain last week?"
Then asking students if they notice the difference and using this as a basis to start explaining the structure.
