In Response To: Stateside Job Prospects (Rick Roberts)

I have a BA/psychology and 20 years of working in technology. I want a change. I am considering the TEFL certificate from Georgia State University, a 5-class program that includes a practicum. What will my stateside job prospects be? Would a library hire me with that credential? I would eventually like to teach overseas, but I have too many ties keeping me here for a few years.

A library? If you're referring to non-profit, community adult ESL programs that hold classes in libraries, schools, YMCAs, churches, etc., then yes, it's possible depending on the availability of openings in your target cities as well as the required job qualifications. Don't expect much in the way of pay, benefits, or teaching hours, which means you'll want to keep your day job. For networking and job opportunities in your state, check out Georgia TESOL.
