Re: FBI Background Check

I am just wondering if I should go ahead and get an FBI background check immediately - do all employers want this? I don't know exactly when I will be sending applications, within the next month or two hopefully. If I get a background check now, and then don't apply for some time, will the employer request a newer one?
I actually have one from almost two years ago in an envelope still, but I imagine that would definitely need to be updated (correct me if I'm wrong, and this would suffice). Any information on the matter would be greatly appreciated - in fact, if anyone has any links to the general process for preliminary steps for someone like me, I would also appreciate that.

No harm in getting a criminal background report; you can request one even if you're not job hunting. Considering how long a background check may take for processing, it's a good idea to get jump on it if you think you may need it for employment purposes. Anyway, a report that's more than 6 months old is very likely to be rejected by prospective employers. For the link to the appropriate FBI division, do an Internet search using: criminal background check fbi.
