FBI Background Check

Hello, I'll try to be brief (and please forgive me, but I couldn't find the information I wanted, so if you post a link to where the question has been answered, I will be grateful).

I'm just getting started with the process of teaching English in another country, and I have not really decided on exactly WHERE I want to go to do this - I have dual citizenship (US/UK), so I assume I have a bit of flexibility there. I also have a Master's degree in English and American Literature from the University of Kent in Canterbury.

I am certain I should take a TESOL course of some sort, as I have no experience teaching and would like to be prepared and enter a position with some sort of pedagogy.

Anyway, I am just wondering if I should go ahead and get an FBI background check immediately - do all employers want this? I don't know exactly when I will be sending applications, within the next month or two hopefully. If I get a background check now, and then don't apply for some time, will the employer request a newer one?

I actually have one from almost two years ago in an envelope still, but I imagine that would definitely need to be updated (correct me if I'm wrong, and this would suffice). Any information on the matter would be greatly appreciated - in fact, if anyone has any links to the general process for preliminary steps for someone like me, I would also appreciate that.

Should I decide on where I would like to look for work before I even ask these questions?

Thank you very much for reading, and I apologize seeming thoroughly uninformed in all of this - but I am :}
