In Response To: Re: ESL certification (ICAL TEFL)

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. Really appreciate the feedback. The responses gave me a better understanding of ESL certification. The one who responded regarding my ESL teaching in Korea is right. I am fully aware that teaching in Korea is not the same as teaching in Central America or Europe. By the way, Korea was not my only ESL teaching experience. I was a volunteer ESL teacher at a village school in Thailand when serving there with the U.S. Army many years ago. I have also been teaching ESL as a volunteer at our city library since October this year. As I already had extensive experience teaching (20 plus years as instructor with U.S. government and more than 10 years as skills trainer in the U.S. Army) I thought perhaps I could skip the onsite certification course and just take it online. I am well aware that onsite ESL course is by far much more desirable, and I fully agree; I just wanted to cut back on the cost of investing in this endeavor as I only have a retirement pension to rely on. Thanks everyone!
