Having other than TEFL academic qualifications helps you in pursuing TEFL training but is not a substitute for EFL/ESL teacher training.
You definitely need EFL/ESL training if you want to be successful in any language learning classroom.
If you reside around New York city is there not a CELTA certificate course offered nearby?
Or, how about investigating a local community college/university in your area that offers TEFL training.
There really isn't a "best" certificate; the most globally recognized is CELTA. However, TEFL employers will hire other than CELTA candidates provided the potential candidate demonstrates academic competency and experience.
With your extensive writing abilities and some academic linguistic training and teaching practice, you will be well qualified to teach English to students of other languages.
