A legitimate certificate? Yes
Widely recognized? Don't know!

Take the time to define your goals. Each certificate, diploma will get you certain types of jobs and certain salary range in different countries. At a minimum I suggest you spend your hard earned money for a widely recognized certificate that has a serious teaching practicum.

The Cambridge CELTA and the Trinity CertTESOL are widely recognized internationally. Other university and college programs are equally effective training programs but no where near as widely accepted. Like it or not these are the benchmark certificates in the industry.

Review the job forums and research what the schools you want to work for want from you. Remember, ultimately you are marketing yourself to these schools.

An alternative might be to find a Cambridge CELTA and the Trinity CertTESOL in the country you want to work and complete the certificate there. As I tell my university students: "Do your research".

For instance, Sol Schools Miami Beach: located on the south east coast of Florida, Sol Schools Miami Beach is an English language school and teacher training center. They offer a 4-week Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).
