TEFL Methods of Teaching

I am very new to teaching and am seeking an accredited school to obtain my TEFL online. My aim is to eventually open a private school in my home abroad. I was researching different methods of teaching and have come across several: communicative approach, direct method, task-based, etc. What is the accepted method these days as being the most effective to teach English to non-English-speaking children and/or adults? I am sure no one approach is acceptable to all; however, I would be most interested in hearing from experienced teachers their preferred method(s) and why. Thank you.
