Do you have a degree? That will change things dramatically. Do it in Europe if you intend on working in Europe. Do it in Thailand or somewhere cheap if you intend on working in that region. Be aware that it isn't thought of as anything more than any other entry level certificate in Japan and probably other countries in East Asia, either. There are more and more people running around with masters in TESOL or applied linguistics these days. So much so that the PhD in Applied Linguistics (once thought of as something you do if you intend on teaching in MA programs, and that was about it) is starting to be requested (but usually not required) by some employers (because there are probably very, very few people with doctorates in this area willing to accept the jobs being offered). Other people have multiple masters degrees or masters plus post grad qualifications in other areas. Publications and local language ability are usually requirements in Japan, too.
