If you are serious about a career in TEFL then certainly a Masters degree will be necessary. You already have a BA(Hons) which bodes well as a launch into a Masters Program. I say this in terms of study skills, writing papers, research, that advanced type of academic work crucial to be successful at the post graduate level.
Obtaining a full time teaching TEFL job with benefits at a college or university is extremely competitive. Also, the remuneration isn't the best, particularly in the USA as compared to say, Canada.
You are absolutely correct in saying that post graduate academic qualifications are sought in the USA particulary if you are considering teaching in a public tertiary level insitution, such as a college or university.
If you do decide to obtain a Masters degree, you may want to consider trying your luck at TEFL teaching in the Middle East to obtain experience and then try your luck in the USA.
