I believe your sources are naysayers.
You have credible academic qualifications. You may want to go to your local police department and ask them about organizations that grant official pardons for misdemeanor offences.
You should also try to obtain credible references - honourable people in your community - who would be willing to write a letter of reference for you.
You should not be so discouraged as to give up hope of every teaching abroad.
That is unrealistic.
Most everyone at some point in their lives do things that they later regret. That does not mean that life is over!!
