The tribunal is not a personal anecdote.
It's very real and it's here:
Servicio de Mediación, Arbitraje y Conciliación
Dirección: C/ Princesa, 5.
Código Postal: 28008, Madrid
Teléfono: 91 580 42 24
Fax: 91 580 92 10Regarding the rest of what you wrote. I agree, people should know the score. In Spain, it is highly unlikely that someone will be black marked and sent home, however, that possibility does exist. That's probably why Spain still has the law about becoming a resident if you can prove you've been in the country illegally for three years. It gives everyone (and there's a lot) that didn't get black marked and sent home the chance to become a resident. The last official estimate from the Spanish employment ministry (Dec 2011) stated that there were as many as 250,000 people working in Spain without papers.
If 5 non-EU English teachers (our audience) per year are sent home from Spain, they were just plain unlucky. Based on 5, the odds are 50,000 to 1 of being the unlucky one.
There are ways round this, such as studying Spanish and getting a student visa. This way there's the possibility of working legally in Spain without worrying if you'll be the one out of the 50,000 that gets the unlucky break.
