In Response To: Re: Anti-Americanism- greater issue (Gary Kolar)

I'm sure your college was tough, Gary, but it really is not possible that only 1% of students graduated. (I think most people would regard US law school as being pretty tough. The T14 law schools have a graduation rate of 97%.)

The story about the Egyptian on a CELTA doesn't sound quite kosher to me, although I have no doubt you are relaying accurately what your friend told you.

For an assessor to act in such a cavalier way is most unlikely, particularly where a potential fail candidate is involved. Assessors and trainers know full well that Cambridge will ask to see and will closely scrutinize the portfolio of any potential or actual fail candidate. They also know that fail candidates are very likely to submit official complaints about their courses.

In my experience, this knowledge leads CELTA assessors to be extremely careful in how they approach potential fail candidates' work and complaints.

Note that I am not saying the story can't possibly be true. I am just saying that I personally would be amazed if it were true.

Jeff
