Hopefully no course will develop like that. One can only wonder what they are up to and why. Since this will only be available at existing centers, it doesnt really increase the number of people who can take it. Candidates will definitely watch videos - the press release assured that.

So what WILL change? Well, trainers will not do input, that is for sure. One reason could be to standardize input - up till now centers have been able to deliver courses in any manner they see fit as long as they meet the syllabus requirements. Has there been a large amount of criticism regarding course content? Certainly not on this forum. If that is anything to go by, standardisation is not the reason.

Do trainers make a lot of money? It seems to me that someone posted here a while back and wages were around $4-5 thousand per course. Not so bad if a course is full - average price seems to be around $2000.

Take a course of 8 - 16 grand coming in; perhaps 10 grand going out in terms of trainers salaries = almost 63% of the gross. Add in classroom renteals, photocopying, advertising costs, etc and there not much left - not a healthy profit margin, in any case.

I gather in the UK there is so much competition in some cities that they are forced to undercut each other. If I was an owner, I'd be thinking about dropping the course, based on salaries alone. Wait! I can't drop it - having the celta at my school means I have an affiliation to Cambridge, which looks pretty good on my home page and certainly helps bring in its share of customers, regardless of quality issues.

So what do I do? Put the damn trainers to work making some money for me, and then use the trainees to cover for them.

Sounds like the cash register filling up again.

Anyway, thanks for your input on the matter and thank you for being reasonable about it and not talking about some damn octopus
