I'm just curious as to the concept of 'published'.

Does it refer to books or articles?

I am led to believe that it is MUCH easier to get published in Asia. Is this true?

I have heard from several sources that it is relatively cheap to self-publish and sell your materials in Asia. Is this also true?

If what I have understood about publishing there is correct, it would appear that the actual 'quality' of what one has published might be called into question. Or does this matter at all when applying for such a position at a university?

I'd appreciate your comments on this.
